What is Kinesiology?Kinesiology has its origins in traditional Chinese complementary medicine. In medical science, it is the study of muscles and the movement of the body. Indeed, the Greek word Kinesis means motion. Over the last forty years Kinesiology has developed into a system of applying gentle muscle testing to assess and balance the body and energy levels. What happens during a treatment? You will be asked to resist light pressure applied to various muscles. Surprisingly, you will find some muscles resist very easily, while others not at all. Most tests are conducted while you are lying on a couch. It is not necessary to remove any clothing except shoes. It is more comfortable to wear loose clothing as some tests involve raising arms or legs. Imbalances will be corrected during the treatment. Various techniques are used to restore the body's natural energy and balance. These include holding or massaging acupuncture points and working on neuro-lymphatic or neuro-vascular reflexes. Advice may be given on nutritional support, exercise or simple stress reducing techniques. How will I feel?Treatments can be powerful and deep acting. Major energy changes may make you feel initially sleepy or tired. Other slight symptoms such as a cold or headache are a good sign that the healing is taking place. How many treatments are needed? Some problems are short term and can be sorted fairly quickly. Conditions that have been present for years may take longer to relieve. The treatment aims to discover those factors that cause imbalance and those that will re-educate the body to stay well. It is reasonable to expect a noticeable improvement by at least the third session or less. What does it treat? The greatest application is dealing with everyday complaints that appear to have no obvious medical causes or permanent solution. The assessment techniques usefully identify sources of general unwellness. Some people think of it as an energy MOT. Kinesiology has helped with many common conditions including, allergies, chronic fatigue, asthma, eczema, insomnia, anxiety, weight problems, muscular pain and much more. Kinesiology is a truly holistic approach to health as it tests for and corrects imbalances throughout the whole body / mind systems. The techniques are simple, gentle and safe for everyone.
