What is the Bowen Technique?The Bowen Technique is primarily a truly holistic remedial therapy. It differs from many other therapies in that it does not attempt to inflict the will of the therapist, or a specific outcome, onto the client. Instead, it encourages and enables the body to decide what it wishes to do to restore its own structural integrity. What does the Bowen Technique involve?A series of gentle moves are made across muscle, tendon and other soft tissue. The therapist uses fingers and thumbs on specific areas, applying gentle pressure to effect a movement, disturbing the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body. The majority of moves can be performed through light, loose clothing such as T-shirts or leggings, but not through jeans! In between each set of moves the therapist leaves the room to allow the client to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed. This gives the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments that help relieve tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process. There is no:
A typical treatment lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. The best results are usually obtained by having two or three treatments, five to ten days apart, with seven days being the optimum interval. Thereafter some clients find they only need to visit their therapist occasionally to maintain the improvements. Please remember during the three or four days after a treatment the body is in a state of change so do not overdo things. Even if you feel very well, be careful not to do too much and re-injure or tire yourself.
