What is counselling?

Counselling does not profess to be the answer to all your problems but it will give you the opportunity to explore different ways of looking at your life. Through this you will come to understand yourself, the issues you face and the best way for you to overcome them

Counselling enables people to work more effectively through issues such as:

  • Stress
  • Family and relationship difficulties
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Health problems
  • Alcohol related problems
  • Effects of trauma and abuse
  • Adjustment to major changes
  • Sudden crisis
  • Lack of self-esteem and confidence

What are the benefits of Counselling?

In difficult times, counselling helps you to focus on life with a new perspective.

When you are feeling alone, sad, anxious or overwhelmed, exploring, clarifying and expressing painful feelings and thoughts may help you obtain a greater emotional strength, while improving your methods of relating and communicating.

The benefits of managing your difficulties include:

  • A feeling of well being
  • Raised levels of energy and sharpness of mind
  • Increased self-esteem and confidence
  • An awareness of direction and a feeling of fulfilment
  • The ability to overcome difficult issues

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy is an exceptionally versatile approach that uses a variety of methods (such as role-plays, art and music) to improve feelings of self worth and your ability to function in your environment. Through this, you will begin to recognize ways to develop your life circumstances for the better.

This flexibility means that Gestalt therapy can be adapted to most people regardless of their personal background and is successfully used to treat many issues including stress, depression, abuse, loss/bereavement, alcoholism and eating disorders.

I ground my work in a conversational relationship, meeting individuals as equals in a genuine, confidential, non-judgemental and holistic manner. My aim throughout the therapy is to focus on you and your unique situation

Your Counsellor – Georgina Mulligan

Having worked in the nursing profession for many years, I have cared for people with many different illnesses and problems.

In 1995 I naturally progressed into counselling and I have gained considerable experience as a therapist working with clients with stress, loss, depression, bereavement and alcohol-related problems.

I frequently work with people who are experiencing difficulties and want to make changes to improve the quality of their lives. I have also worked with disaffected young people and have been trained in domestic violence counselling

I have a Diploma in Gestalt Therapy and Person Centred Counselling, a Certificate of Education (Counselling) and B.Tec. in Social Care. I am a member of BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychology.)
